Pup pics & career tips - welcome (again)! 😊

Hey Reader,

The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind between launching my brand-new group coaching program and celebrating a ton of exciting offers from our 1:1 clients…

But there’s one more thing I’m especially excited about:

Over the past few months, we’ve welcomed thousands of new faces into our community:

We’re now 47,000 strong on LinkedIn, and over 10,000 of you are reading this newsletter every week!!! 🎉

Whether you’ve been here since 2021 or you just joined last week – WELCOME.

And since we’ve grown so much lately, I figured it was the perfect time for me to reintroduce myself, so you can get to know the face behind the name that’s always in your inbox. 😅

I still remember one of my very first sales calls back in 2021, when someone asked me:

“Carly, this all sounds great… but what makes you different from every other career coach on the internet?”

Ouch. 😬

At the time, I thought the super comprehensive coaching program I’d created should speak for itself… But that’s silly.

Because how could people trust me if they didn’t actually know me or anything about what goes on behind the scenes?

So I made a commitment then and there to open up more – to share what makes my coaching approach different, and to make sure you always know who you're learning from.

Whether you're here because you're actively job searching, considering working with a coach, or just love the free advice, here’s a quick look into who I am, what I do, and how my team and I are helping hundreds of people land ideal-fit Customer Success roles:

Who the heck is Carly Agar?

🐶 Jersey native still holding it down here with my fiancé and our oversized rescue dog, Riggs.

☀️ Super chill, not rattled easily.. except when it comes to companies treating applicants like sh*t or the junk career advice people casually post on LinkedIn.

🔁 I’ve pivoted more than once: started pre-med, switched to marketing, moved from sales to CS, and eventually landed in coaching. I don’t get hung up on following a path.

🏠 I’m 100% a homebody. Thriller books, DIY projects, and staying in > just about anything else. Unless it’s golf. I WILL leave the house to golf.

Why should you trust me with your career?

→ I spent 10+ years in traditional 9-5 Customer Success jobs and worked at companies at every stage – from tiny startups to Fortune 50 giants – so I’ve seen a lot of what works and what doesn’t in this space.

→ I eventually became a CS Enablement Manager (a role I literally created for myself), coaching a team of 20+ CSMs on job performance, career paths, and professional growth before I left the field to become a full-time career coach in 2021.

→ I’ve coached well over 800 customer success job seekers to-date, from career transitioners landing entry level roles at small startups, to the most senior, strategic CSMs, all the way up to folks landing Director positions at tech giants like Salesforce and Amazon!

→ I’m obsessed with data. I spent over $5,000 last year (I got receipts!) to get a super custom Monday.com buildout for our team. Which allows us to answer questions for our clients like: “if I’m a senior CSM looking for a role in FinTech, based on your past successful senior CSM clients in FinTech, what’re the keywords I should have in my resume?”.

These days, my team and I spend most of our time supporting job seekers directly, studying market trends, and working closely with current recruiters and hiring managers to make hiring more successful (and dare I say, enjoyable) on both sides.

The results?

88% of our clients land a new CS role within 6 months, with the average time being 2.9 months. And most of them increase their income by at least 18% after working with us.

So, what does working with me and my team actually look like?

We help you:

  • Rewrite your resume so it actually gets opened read by CS recruiters
  • Create a LinkedIn profile that builds instant credibility and attracts recruiters
  • Craft outreach messages that get responses from hiring managers
  • Build a job search plan that’s strategic, and built on data (duh)
  • Negotiate job offers so your pay is reflective of market value
  • Practice for interviews with real, tailored coaching and feedback
  • Understand your value in the market so you stand out from the crowd

I’ve got a ton of free tips that I regularly share on my website, LinkedIn, and podcast

But if you’re curious how you can work with me 1:1 to land your next CS job faster, just fill out this quick form, and I’ll reach out personally to chat.

Thanks for being here, Reader, I’m truly honored to be in your corner.

Always rooting for your success,

Carly

P.S. As a reward for sticking with me until the end of this email, enjoy this photo of my PERFECT (in every way except for the one time he ripped the gutter off our house to try to “play” with the chipmunk that was inside it) pup, Riggs:

Hey Reader, One of the hardest things to watch as a career coach is amazing people getting knocked down in their job search because they can’t figure out how to adapt to this crazy new job market. Because here’s the truth: these days, you can be the perfect match on paper for a role… and still not get anywhere. 😐 That was the situation A.P. was in when she first reached out. She came to us after months of applying, with only two interviews under her belt. She kept saying, “But my background...

Hey Reader, We can all agree that the job market has been…chaotic these past couple of years, right? The wildest thing? Every job posting seems to get hundreds, if not thousands, of applicants. Sure, half of them are “spray and pray” applications sent to every open job on the internet, but still, the numbers can be intimidating. So, who are the people who actually land these roles? 🤔 Well, my team and I speak directly with CS hiring managers on a regular basis, and they all say that the...

Hey Reader, Have you noticed that we humans are obsessed with growth – in our lives, in our careers, in our bank accounts? But lately I’ve been wondering… what if growth doesn’t always mean more? What if it just means different? I’ve been wrestling with this idea my whole life. People have always challenged some of my choices and guilt-tripped me in the name of growth. Like the time I left a big enterprise company to join a small startup. “Isn’t that a step back?” they asked. Honestly? It was...
