He almost gave up on his CS job search.

Hey Reader,

There’s something I don’t talk about much, but I think it’s important to say out loud:

Doing this work – supporting job seekers while they’re in the thick of their hope and heartbreak – can be emotionally intense.

Because behind every resume I help fix and every strategy I teach, there’s a real person who’s often running out of confidence.

Some weeks, we celebrate wins and offers and new beginnings. Other weeks, we’re just helping someone hold on a little longer.

That’s why certain client stories stick with me a little more – not because they landed the highest salary, but because they remind me why I do this work.

MK was one of those clients.

When he first reached out, he was tired – tired of applying, of trying, of being told to "just network more" or "fix his resume" without any real guidance.

Honestly, he was pretty skeptical of everything my team and I said we were going to teach him…

🫤 He was deep in spray-and-pray mode – applying to 10 jobs a day, convinced that more was better. We tried to help him shift to a quality-over-quantity strategy, but that belief took a while to reprogram.

🫤 His resume had a big old “skills” section filled with things like “troubleshooting,” “Slack,” and “Relationship Building.” He really believed keyword stuffing would help him “beat” the ATS, and was hesitant to let go of that.

🫤 He wasn’t convinced about networking either. He said he tried it a couple times over LinkedIn and didn’t get anything out of it. So, to him, it wasn’t a good use of time.

🫤 He also didn’t want to do cold outreach or record outreach videos. Said it felt awkward and pointless.

🫤 And to top it all off, he was nervous about his career pause. He thought being honest about it would hurt his chances in interviews.

He had just… lost faith.

But something shifted when he decided to give our process a real shot.

(Which, just saying, is fully backed by data from over 800+ clients we’ve helped land roles in CS these past few years.)

Once he let himself trust the process, things started to change.

He began landing interviews at companies that actually aligned with what he wanted.

And not long after, he sent us this message:

That moment right there? That’s everything for me and my team.

Because when someone who’s been burnt out, discouraged, and on the verge of giving up starts to feel hopeful again AND actually achieves their goals – that’s the best kind of win in my book.

And MK’s story? It’s not an outlier. It’s exactly what happens to all of our clients when they decide to trust that there is a better way to do this whole job search thing.

This “better” way my team and I teach is informed by real data, real hiring manager feedback, and real strategies that are working right now for job seekers in Customer Success.

If you’re ready to find a better-fit, better-paid CS job and become our next success story, we can help you, too.

Just reach out today, and let’s talk about what you’re struggling with in your job search right now.

To your success,

Carly

Hey Reader, One of the hardest things to watch as a career coach is amazing people getting knocked down in their job search because they can’t figure out how to adapt to this crazy new job market. Because here’s the truth: these days, you can be the perfect match on paper for a role… and still not get anywhere. 😐 That was the situation A.P. was in when she first reached out. She came to us after months of applying, with only two interviews under her belt. She kept saying, “But my background...

Hey Reader, We can all agree that the job market has been…chaotic these past couple of years, right? The wildest thing? Every job posting seems to get hundreds, if not thousands, of applicants. Sure, half of them are “spray and pray” applications sent to every open job on the internet, but still, the numbers can be intimidating. So, who are the people who actually land these roles? 🤔 Well, my team and I speak directly with CS hiring managers on a regular basis, and they all say that the...

Hey Reader, Have you noticed that we humans are obsessed with growth – in our lives, in our careers, in our bank accounts? But lately I’ve been wondering… what if growth doesn’t always mean more? What if it just means different? I’ve been wrestling with this idea my whole life. People have always challenged some of my choices and guilt-tripped me in the name of growth. Like the time I left a big enterprise company to join a small startup. “Isn’t that a step back?” they asked. Honestly? It was...
